SNC began with a simple belief: individuals with disabilities and their families should be able to find connection, opportunity, support, and belonging right here in their own community.
What started as a conversation has grown into a community-driven hub that connects people and resources, creates inclusive opportunities, and brings people together to build solutions when gaps exist.

We believe we're all on the same side. Families, schools, providers, organizations, and community partners may bring different perspectives, but we share a common goal: helping individuals with disabilities thrive.
We listen, collaborate, and focus on what's possible—because the best solutions are built when we work together, not against each other.
Our Story
Where it Started
SNC was born from lived experience.
As families of individuals with disabilities, we knew firsthand how difficult it could be to find information, connection, opportunities, and support close to home.
But SNC didn't begin with the idea of creating another organization. It began with a question:
Why not here?
Why couldn't our community have more opportunities? Better connections? Easier access to information? More places where individuals with disabilities and their families simply belonged?
In January 2024, families and community partners came together in Mercer County, West Virginia, and started building.
Since then, SNC has continued to listen, identify gaps, connect people, and turn ideas into action—always with the belief that our community already holds many of the people, strengths, and resources needed to create meaningful change.

The Special Needs Collaborative operates under the fiscal sponsorship of Community Connections, Inc. This partnership provides SNC with nonprofit infrastructure and support while allowing us to remain focused on building connections, opportunities, and solutions for individuals with disabilities and their families.
